Derrick Reagins, Managing Director
Derrick Reagins is the Managing Partner at Alden Advisors. He has 20 years of industry experience in information technology, investment banking and private equity. Mr. Reagins has a broad background in mergers and acquisitions, corporate business development, strategic marketing and technology.
Prior to founding the firm, Mr. Reagins provided growth advisory services to middle-market companies in the technology, consumer products and manufacturing industries through acquisition, capital raising and operational strategies. Prior to this, Mr. Reagins worked with Texas Instruments in the mobile device processor group where he led the P&L planning and developed the global marketing strategies for emerging technologies. Additionally, Mr. Reagins was an integral member of the Business Objects’ (now SAP) corporate business development team, where he developed and executed corporate strategy through M&A, intellectual property management, equity investments and strategic alliance activities. He also identified, evaluated and invested in early-, mid- and late-stage private equity investments throughout Western Europe for the Paris, France-based Partech International. Mr. Reagins has diverse operational experience ranging from business development and product management activities in Asia to the management of a software development team in France.
Mr. Reagins holds an MBA specializing in M&A and Intellectual Property Management from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, a MSEE degree from Georgia Tech, a MSEE degree from École Supérieure de l’Électricité (a renowned French engineering university), and a BSEE from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. Mr. Reagins is bilingual in English and French and is a Registered Representative of StillPoint Capital, LLC, Member FINRA and SIPC, Tampa, FL and holds the Series 63, 79, and 82 registrations.
Paul Werp, Managing Director
Mr. Werp has been consulting with leading technology companies focused in the semiconductor system and IP areas. He has leveraged his extensive worldwide network of industry leaders and experts with engagements focused on restructuring, business development, M&A and capital raising.
While living in Europe from 2007-2011, he integrated and reshaped NXP Semiconductors’ & ST Microelectronics’ Connectivity businesses into customer-focused organization with a winning mentality as Vice President, General Manager at ST Ericsson. Highlights of experience include a $110M acquisition of Glonav to add GPS to the wireless connectivity portfolio while winning an additional $700M of new business.
In an earlier role, Mr. Werp was the Business Director of Texas Instruments’ (TI) Mobile Connectivity Solutions group, where he was responsible for the overall business line, including GPS, Bluetooth, FM, WLAN and digital TV technologies for mobile devices. This business grew 8X and it won over $750M of new business. He also served as the worldwide director for TI’s Cellular Systems Group where he defined and developed the OMAP roadmap, managed the software-system strategy and led the OMAP Ecosystem of partners and developers. Prior to joining TI in 1995, Paul was a product marketing engineer for Hewlett Packard’s RF semiconductor division, now part of Avago Technologies. In this role, he focused on RF products that played a critical role in the emerging digital cellular market.

Mark Stachiw, Managing Director
Mr. Stachiw is a managing director at Alden Advisors. Mark brings multiple decades of C-level experience as well as strategic and operational leadership to dealmaking. He has been instrumental in investing in and advising middle market companies and their boards toward higher levels of growth. Mr. Stachiw leverages his legal, operational, and deep industry experience as a client advocate in executing mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Alden Advisors, Mark held various senior leadership roles, ultimately becoming the Vice Chairman, General Counsel and Secretary, at MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE:PCS), a $6 billion dollar Fortune 500 public wireless communications company, where he was responsible for board governance, legal, regulatory and external affairs and, at times, human resources and corporate development. He guided MetroPCS through its IPO in 2007, raised an additional $28 billion in debt, and was instrumental in quintupling the company’s addressable market and over sextupling its revenue. Subsequently, Mr. Stachiw played a key role in leading the company’s merger with T‐Mobile in 2012, then the largest domestic merger ever announced. Prior to MetroPCS, Mark was a senior executive and chief legal, external affairs and regulatory officer for multiple divisions of several other publicly-traded communications companies and an entrepreneur who started several technology companies.
Mr. Stachiw earned both a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis. He holds the distinction of being a member of the Order of the Coif, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi.
Karlton Gholston, Business Development and Marketing Manager
Mr. Gholston is a Business Development and Marketing Manager for Alden Advisors. With more than 10 years of experience in emerging advertising technologies, technology, and mergers and acquisitions, he utilizes digital and traditional channels to initiate, reestablish and cultivate client relationships within selected industries.
Prior to a career in investment banking, Karlton worked in the Silicon Valley and Los Angeles as an Account Director within the emerging advertising technology industry. At companies such as Steel Media, Carbon Media Group and WeatherBug, he led West Coast teams that developed and sold long-term digital marketing solutions to clients such as Toyota, Vonage, Sony Entertainment, Electronic Arts, Activision, Nike, KEEN Footwear and Amtrak. In 2014, Karlton broke the Steel Media record for most generated revenue in a fiscal quarter.
Karlton earned Bachelor of Arts degrees from Auburn University in Public Relations and Journalism. In 1999, he interned on the state Capitol Hill and served on the Public Relations Council of Alabama. As a lifelong soccer player, Karlton captained the Auburn University Men’s Soccer team.
Bob Scarlata, Managing Director and Affiliate Partner
Mr. Scarlata, is the founder and Sr. Managing Director of WhiteHorse Partners, LLC and an industrial-focused affiliate partner to Alden Advisors since 2015. He has been an M&A Dealmaker since 1986 closing multi-million dollar transactions in a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, service, software, oil/gas and many others throughout the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Scarlata garnered significant operational expertise starting a leasing business in college followed by a 10-year post law school career in engineering and machinery sales with several U.S. and European companies targeting Fortune 500 companies. He later acquired a firm specializing in the valuation, marketing and sale of privately owned companies.
Mr. Scarlata graduated with an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Connecticut and a J.D. from the University of Miami. He has translated this wealth of knowledge into a reader friendly overview of his and his clients’ experiences in his book, “Manage To Sell Your Business: Wealth Creation Secrets of the Pros.” Mr. Scarlata is a Registered Representative of Trump Securities, Member FINRA and SIPC, and holds the Series 63 and 79 Registrations.
Alan R. Hutson, Managing Director
Mr. Hutson was an M&A advisor with more than 25 years of C-level experience, operational leadership, and investment banking experience and guided our clients through all business cycle phases; from growth to exit and from turnaround to resurgence. Mr. Hutson contributed much to the culture and guiding principles of Alden Advisors and to the successful navigation of our clients toward their goals.
